MULTAN, Aug 16: Mutahhida Majlis-i-Amal central leader Liaquat Baloch has urged the opposition to concentrate on the struggle against dictatorship instead of finding faults in its own ranks.
Speaking at a press conference here on Saturday, he stressed on the unity among all the opposition parties for what he said for the supremacy of the constitution and parliament.
He said the country was passing through a critical phase of its history and the situation warranted that wise decisions should be taken at this crucial hour.
“We will not strike any secret deal with the government and that the people will be taken into confidence during all the stages of negotiations with the government”, he said.
However, he expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of ongoing negotiations between the MMA and government and accused the latter for wasting time.
The religio-political alliance, he made it clear, would accept General Musharraf in uniform uptill October 2004 only if the government agreed to bring the LFO into parliament for discussion, withdraw the extension in the judges age of superannuation and changes in the schedule 6 of the national assembly.
Mr Baloch warned that the opposition would not allow any official business to be done if the government called the session of parliament or the national assembly without reaching on an agreement on the controversial LFO issue.
The MMA had chalked out a comprehensive protest drive against the government which would include public meetings in big cities and ‘Awami Caravans’ at all the district headquarters of the country, he said.
To a question, he said the corps commanders meeting was no forum to decide political matters of the country in the presence of parliament.
