MINGORA, Jan 4: The Swat Police have arrested 120 proclaimed offenders and recovered arms, ammunitions and contraband items from their possession.
This was stated by Senior Superintendent of Police Usman Zakaria at a press conference here on Thursday.
He said during 2001, police were able to smash a number of criminals’ gangs active in Manglowar, Gogdara, Aingarodherai and Abuha. The SSP said police also arrested a number of dacoits active in these areas. Those who were arrested included Zulam, Aqalmand, Dawood, Dawveza Umer, Sirajuddin, Fazal Subhan Tariq, Zahir Shah, Mir Alam Ikram, Abdullah, Aalyar, Mohammad Saeed, Inayat, Habibullah, Nisar, Awal Khan, Syed Ali Shah and Abdul Ghani.
The SSP said three land cruisers, 15 motor cars, one flying coach, five motorcycles, items of daily use like tyres, tubes, electronic items besides rice and ghee were recovered.
Police also seized 545kg hashish, 36kg opium, 3kg heroin powder, 7,854 litres of locally-made liquor, 21 Kalashnikovs, 90 riles, 90 guns, 222 pistols and 16,247 cartridges from criminals, the SSP added.
