ISLAMABAD, Aug 13: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has said nobody is “indispensable” and without sacrificing our ego contentious issues cannot be resolved.

Speaking at a workshop held at the National Defence College on Wednesday, the prime minister said: “It does not matter whether one is a politician, a businessman, a civil servant or is in uniform, they all are equal and need to work in one direction only to contribute something for Pakistan.”

One of the participant told Dawn that Mr Jamali said that he expected from the parliamentarians to follow the maxim ‘united we stand’ and look into the issues for the sake of Pakistan.

The participants included national leadership from various segments of the society including parliamentarians, district Nazims, senior bureaucrats, ambassadors designate, industrialists, media representatives, advocates and officers of the armed forces.

He posed a question, “Why can’t we sacrifice our ego?.” The premier asked the political parties to deliver what they were needed for the good of the country. “We should not see whether something is good for a particular group or a jamaat, rather we should focus on what is good for Pakistan.”

Mr Jamali said tackling issues and moving in a direction which was in the interest of Pakistan needed a proactive and positive approach.

He said: “As citizens of Pakistan we should learn to live within the parameters and try to understand each other in a better manner.”
