New Unicef chief

ISLAMABAD, Aug 12: Omar Ahmed Abdi has assumed the charge of representative of the United Nations International Children’s Fund (Unicef) for Pakistan replacing Carroll C. Long.

Ms Long is now Unicef representative designate to Myanmar.

According to a press release, in addition to the ongoing emergency relief measures for the flood victims and the current Unicef activities for the children and women in Pakistan, Mr Abdi will spearhead the new Unicef Country Programme of Cooperation for Pakistan (2004-08) in partnership with the government.—Our Reporter
