LAHORE, Aug 12: The legal heirs of the judges killed during the “hostage drama” in the Sialkot jail on Tuesday accused the police of mishandling its operation due to haste, as the negotiators were about to get success in their purpose.

The heirs of civil judges Saghir Ahmad and Asif Mumtaz Cheema met the Lahore High Court Bar Association office-bearers and shared their sorrow. They alleged that DIG Malik Iqbal and Sialkot SSP Amjad Saleemi were directly involved in the judges’ killings, but they had not been arrested so far.

They offered to get the dead bodies (of the two judges) exhumed for the confirmation of the claim that the bullets fired by the police had hit the judges.

LHCBA President Hafiz Abdul Rahman Ansari and other officer-bearers assured the heirs that they would not let this issue be placed on the backburner. The Bar association would hold a three-day protest camp if both the police officials were not arrested, he added.
