PESHAWAR, Aug 9: The police have arrested 304 proclaimed offenders and seized a large quantity of small and heavy weapons during a 15-day anti-outlaw operation in and around the city, said a senior police official.

Speaking at a Press conference held at the Police Headquarters here on Thursday, SSP Operations Khalid Habib said that the operation was launched after collecting data of wanted criminals and their supporters in rural and urban areas of Peshawar.

All DSPs were given special tasks, who supervised the operation against criminals, the SSP said.

During the campaign, the police arrested 304 proclaimed offenders wanted by police in murder, attempted murder, robbery and kidnapping for ransom cases. While, 113 accused were arrested on the charges of providing safe haven in their respective areas.

The police, during the 15-day operation, seized 47 Kalashnikovs, 178 riffles, 21 shotguns, 12 sten-guns, nine hand grenades, five Kalakovs and 4226 cartridges of various bores including anti-aircraft bullets and rockets shells.

The police also recovered 177kg of hashish, 5.307kg of heroin and 20kg of liquor, the SSP said.

KILLED: A woman was killed by her former in-laws as she refused to go with her husband after divorce in Atta Mohammad Ghari in the jurisdiction of Bhana Mari police station on Wednesday night.

A police official concerned said that Saeeda, daughter of Gulab Sher, was divorced by her husband, Zulfiqar, son of Anwar Shah, a resident of Lakki Bagh area of Bhana Mari.

On Wednesday night, Amjad, a brother of her former husband and another relative, Zahir Shah, came to the house of Saeeda and asked her to go back to her husband’s house. But Saeeda refused to go along with them as she insisted that she could not stay with Zulfiqar after divorce.

Both Amjad and Zahir Shah, after Saeeda’s refusal, allegedly killed her and escaped. The police, after registration of an FIR, raided the house on Thursday morning and arrested Amjad and Zahir Shah.
