Cancellation of cable licences denied

LAHORE, Aug 8: A City District Government spokesman on Friday denied cancellation of licences of cable operators by the DCO and said he had only spoken about recommending the penalty.

Clarifying the news released to the newspapers by the Lahore division information office, he said the DCO had only warned the cable operators against transmission of movies and plays containing immoral and obscene scenes in violation of the provisions of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority Ordinance provisions.

The spokesman said the DCO had presided over a meeting and warned the cable operators that strict punitive action would be taken against those found violating the ordinance.

“Not only a case would be registered against such cable operators but cancellation of their licences would also be recommended to the PEMRA,” he added.
