KARACHI: Aid cheques distributed to poor

KARACHI, Aug 8: Provincial Education Minister Irfanullah Khan Marwat on Thursday distributed cheques worth Rs0.55 million among the deserving persons of Azam Basti.

The minister gave cheques of Rs10,000 each to poor women, men and youths of sector-114 of Azam Basti, so that they could start some small business to earn livelihood for their families.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister pointed out that the government had released Rs100 million in this regard.

He asked the area Nazim, Naib Nazim and councillors to identify the deserving persons.

He said the amount to be given ranges from Rs10 to 50 thousand, but an effort would be made to accommodate more needy people by giving an amount of Rs 15 thousand, instead of 50 thousand.

On the occasion, Chairman District Zakat Committee Akbar Dars said these cheques were being given under “Rozgar scheme” so that the people could set up their business. He said that Rs20 million would be distributed among the poor people of Azam Basti, Manzoor Colony, Kashmir Colony, Shirin Jinnah Colony and Lyari.

Besides, he said, an amount of Rs90 million had been received for providing Rs 10,000 each to 7,500 poor people as Guzara Allowance, marriage of poor girls and for free treatment of the poor.—APP
