PESHAWAR, Aug 7: Parliamentary leader of PML-N in the NWFP Assembly Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani has expressed concern over the non- utilization of millions of rupees granted by the Government of Japan for the construction of roads in the Frontier province and demanded a probe against the department concerned.
In a press release issued here on Thursday, the PML-N leader said that the tender for the construction of roads had been floated in Sept 2002 but the work on the project was yet to start despite the passage of one year.
Mr Ghani said that the grant would get lapsed in November 2003 and that would be an immense loss to the cash-strapped province.
He demanded an immediate enquiry into the non-utilisation of the funds against top officials of the Works and Services Department those found guilty of gross negligence should be punished severely.
The other three provinces, he said, had already begun work on the roads to utilise the same fund, adding that he had already submitted an adjournment motion in the provincial assembly’s secretariat regarding the non-utilisation of funds.
