ARD flays ‘negative’ media coverage

LAHORE, Aug 6: ARD President Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan said on Wednesday that the national dignity was being negatively affected by the out-of-proportion coverage on the media of Ms Benazir Bhutto and her husband’s ‘conviction’ by a Swiss investigating magistrate.

He told reporters that the couple had the right to file an appeal against the conviction and thus the matter should not unnecessarily be blown up.

The Nawabzada said the PPP had polled the highest number of votes despite rigging in the general election which meant that the electorate reposed their confidence in the PPP leadership.

PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, he said, was also a popular leader.

In such a situation, he said, it was unfair on the part of Gen Musharraf to express his reservations about the two most popular leaders.

The ARD president said the two former prime ministers should be allowed to come back to the country to enable them to lead their respective parties.

He said nobody had the right to keep them away from the country.
