KARACHI, Aug 6: Sindh Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar has said that trees, on the one hand, contribute to better environment and, on the other, add to the beauty of our surroundings. Besides, the other products from trees play a vital role in the country’s economy.
Speaking at the launching ceremony of a monsoon plantation campaign in the province by planting a sapling in the Chief Minister’s House on Wednesday, the chief minister said a maximum number of trees be planted in the province to make it green and beautiful and added that the forest department should make efforts to achieve its target for this purpose.
The chief minister said besides planting trees care should be taken for their growth to increase forests.
Sindh Secretary for Forest Shamsul Haq Memon told the meeting that in the current monsoon a target of plantation of seven million saplings and trees would be achieved in which four million trees would be planted on forest land and the remaining three million at public places and institutions.
He said that 5.1 million trees were planted in the last spring, of which three million were planted on forest land and 2.1 million were planted by growers and organizations.
Sindh ministers Irfanullah Marwat and Mohammad Usman Malkani were present at the ceremony.—PPI
