RAWALPINDI, Aug 5: Three people died in different incidents in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Tuesday.
Police said a pedestrian, identified as Babu Khan, was run over by a speeding vehicle in Faizabad. Iftikhar Abbasi, the deceased’s son, told the Secretariat police that his father was crossing the road at midnight when a vehicle knocked him down and escaped.
A 12-year-old boy, Sher Ali, died after falling from his father’s tractor trolley in Tarnol.
Police said Sher Ali was sitting at the back side of the vehicle driven by his father, Bismillah Khan. The boy slipped and fell on the road and came under the wheels of the tractor.
An unidentified injured woman, who had been brought to the DHQ hospital from Gunjmandi on Friday, died at the hospital on Tuesday.
ROBBERIES: Raja Mohammad Ishfaq lodged a complaint with the Gunjmandi police that some unidentified thieves entered his house and took away a computer, printer, six speakers, five sewing machines and Rs2,000.
Iftikhar Jilani, a resident of G-11, told Golra police that unidentified robbers took away jewellry and cash (amount unspecified) from his house.
Riaz Mehmood’s motorbike (RIY-1586) was taken away from his house in Jatli, while a pickup van (NWFP-4099) was stolen in Golra.
APP ADDS: Police on Tuesday claimed that they have arrested a gang of four men allegedly involved in different incidents of robberies.
Speaking at a press conference in New Town police station, DIG Sheikh Israr Ahmed said the gang was involved in different dacoities.
They were identified as Adnan, the ring leader; Waqas, Shahzad and Nasir Hussain, he added.
The DIG said the accused had confessed to have committed 16 dacoities in the city.
He said the accused had come from Karachi and were educated as their ring leader was an MBA. They had bought arms from Peshawar, he added.
Meanwhile, two bandits took away a car from G-8/1 after an exchange of fire with a police party on Monday night.
Police said the bandits hijacked the car (IDL-3517) from G-8/1 and drove towards Rawalpindi. A team of anti-car lifting cell followed them.
Near police picket at Pindora, the police signalled them to stop but they opened fire on the police and fled after leaving the car on the spot.
