LAHORE, Aug 5: The Lahore High Court Bar Association on Tuesday requested Acting Chief Justice Munir A. Sheikh to forgo the three-year extension of his service period under the Legal Framework Order and quit his office.
LHCBA president Hafiz Abdul Rehman Ansari told a press conference that he agreed to Justice Sheikh’s recent press statement that the Parliament was authorised to strike down the LFO provision under which the extension had been granted to superior courts judges.
“The Bar would appreciate acting CJ’s decision to set a precedent for judges availing the extension. However, we wouldn’t welcome him at the Bar if he had to quit his office as a result of a Parliament act abolishing the extension,” he claimed.
Members of the LHCBA and Supreme Court Bar Association had formally requested the acting CJ last month not to accept the extension, which became due to him on July 2. However, Justice Sheikh turned down the request.
