PM calls for steps against terrorism

ISLAMABAD, Aug 5: Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali on Tuesday expressed dissatisfaction over the current law and order situation in the country and directed the interior ministry to take effective measures to overcome terrorist acts, a source in the interior ministry told Dawn.

In a meeting with interior minister Makhdoom Faisal Saleh Hayat, Prime Minister Jamali discussed a recent high court decision regarding unfreezing of Al-Rashid Trust’s bank accounts. The trust had been banned for its alleged complicity in terrorism.

They also talked about the recent explosion in the Giyal village in sub-division Darel in which 45 people had been killed and over 100 had been injured.

The prime minister desired for holding a joint meeting of all paramilitary forces to chalk out a comprehensive strategy to ensure border security, specially on the country’s western borders.

SOOMRO: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali said on Tuesday that sovereignty of parliament and smooth and efficient functioning of both of its houses were vital for the success and growth of democracy in the country, APP adds.

He was talking to Senate chairman Muhammadmian Soomro, who called on him at the Prime Minister’s secretariat here.

During the meeting, the Senate chairman briefed the prime minister about matters related to the upper house of parliament.

He assured the prime minister that the Senate would continue to perform its democratic role under all circumstances.

The prime minister said that the Senate and the National Assembly were equally important pillars of parliament, and their effectiveness was of utmost importance for democracy.

The smooth running of democracy, he stated, was the only way to resolve the problems of the masses. The government will spare no effort for strengthening of democratic institutions in the country, he added.
