LAHORE, Aug 1: Robbers struck 10 times on Friday and made off with cash, gold, valuables and vehicles from different parts of the city.
According to police, two masked men stormed into the house of a trader Sheikh Waseem Ahmad at Gulzeb Colony in Samanabad. The intruders held the inmates hostage and also gave them a thrashing when they tried to put up resistance.
The gangsters collected cash, gold jewellery and valuables worth Rs700,000 and left the family locked in a room before fleeing the place.
One Habiba told the police that she was on her way home after shopping when a gun-totting man intercepted her at Neelam Block in Allama Iqbal Town, snatched Rs65,000 in cash and two gold sets worth Rs100,000 from her and escaped.
Two armed men took away a motorcycle from Batapur while two motorcycles were stolen from Islampura and Qila Gujjar Singh. Yet another was taken away from the Lower Mall.
Four cars were lifted from Faisal Town, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Sabzazar and Defence Housing Society.
Arrested: Model Town division police claimed on Friday to have arrested eight members of two alleged gangs of robbers.
Four members of the first gang were apprehended in a raid which the police claimed was conducted on an information in Factory Area.
Identified as Aslam alias Qasim, Ashraf, Khalid and Liaquat Ali were arrested while their two accomplices, Arshad and Sadaqat, managed to escape.
The police claimed to have recovered cash, electronics and valuables worth over Rs100,000 from the arrested men besides two rifles, a gun and 36 bullets.
The arrested men have so far confessed to have committed six robberies and helped police solve another such crime which took place in the recent weeks.
Four members of another gang were reportedly arrested when they were about to strike in Model Town. They have been identified as Imran alias Mana, Qamar Farooq, Imran Masood and Imran alias Teeto.
The police claimed that a gun, a carbine, a revolver and a pistol, and 18 bullets were recovered from their possession.
