QUETTA, Aug 1: Representatives of the National Labour Federation (NLF) and Contractor Coal Mine Association (CCMA) Chamalang have said that if the government does not announce compensation for families of workers killed in landmine explosions, they will stage a sit-in in front of Governor’s House.
Speaking at a joint news conference here on Friday, President NLF Abdur Rahim Mirdadkhel and President CCMA Sardar Baz Muhammad Khan Panezai regretted that government had adopted double standards in compensating victims’ families.
They stated that in the first week of May, 18 mine workers were either killed in land mine blasts or by terrorists in the Chamalang area, but the government had not announced any compensation.
They warned that if the government ignored their request, mine workers and contractors would have no option but to stage a sit-in in front of Governor’s House.
They also demanded that the government should restore law and order in Chamalang so that work could resume in coal mines.
