ISLAMABAD, Aug 1: The Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) has submitted an adjournment motion to the National Assembly secretariat asking for a debate on recent floods in Sindh and Balochistan.

According to the ARD parliamentary group secretary, Izhar Amrohvi, the motion was submitted with the signatures of eight MNAs belonging to the ARD component parties.

The MNAs, Mr Amrovi said, had asked the speaker to initiate a debate in the National Assembly to identify the persons responsible for the huge losses caused by recent floods in Sindh and Balochistan.

The MNAs are of the view that the Met department had already forecast heavy rains during the ongoing monsoon season, but no steps were taken by the provincial governments to save the lives and property of the people. The slow pace of rescue and relief operations had also caused huge losses to the people, they added.

It was the first adjournment motion moved by the ARD parliamentary group, Mr Amrohvi said.

The motion was signed by acting PML-N President Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, Tehmina Daultana of PML-N, Syed Naveed Qamar of PPP, Nabil Gabol of PPP, Chaudhry Aitezaz Ahsan of PPP, Fauzia Wahab of PPP, Raja Pervez Ashraf of PPP and Sher Mohammad Baloch.
