KARACHI: Rains damage city roads

Published August 2, 2003

KARACHI, Aug 1: The city government has not constituted any survey or inquiry committee, so far, to ascertain the road damages and their causes in the recent rains.

Heavy rains have badly damaged almost all the major roads of the metropolis. Potholes have appeared on many roads while carpeting has also disappeared from a number of thoroughfares.

However, no action has been taken against the contractors, who were involved in construction of these substandard roads.

The roads, which have been suffered badly by the rains, included Jahangir Road, Business Recorder Road, G. Allana Road, University Road, Bahadur Yar Jang Road, Road from Gulbai to Shershah Chowk, Manghopir Road, Burnes Road, Keamari Road and almost all roads in Garden.

Stagnant water on some roads has not yet been drained out, which is not only playing havoc with these roads, but also creating difficulties for vehicular traffic.

Many vehicles usually get stuck up on Jahangir Road due to ditches, while a similar condition is witnessed on the Business Recorder Road.—PPI
