NEW DELHI, July 31: India said on Thursday that its civil aviation officials would visit Pakistan on Aug 27 to thrash out lingering differences on the resumption of air links and overflight facilities between the two countries.

A foreign ministry spokesman said the talks would be held on Aug 27 and 28 in Islamabad between civil aviation officials from both sides.

India had stopped overflights and air links in January 2002 following an attack on its parliament on Dec 13, 2001. Now Pakistan wants guarantees that air links will not be disrupted again so easily.

“We have conveyed to Pakistan our readiness for talks on Aug 27 and 28,” the spokesman said.

The decision to revive air links on a reciprocal basis was announced after Prime Minister Zafarullah Jamali called his Indian counterpart.
