ISLAMABAD, July 28: Boys from Rawalpindi secured all the top positions in the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) Examination 2003 of the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE).

According to the results announced on Monday, out of the total of 34,010 candidates, 21,560 remained successful with an overall pass percentage of 63.65. This was considerably low compared to last year’s 72 per cent.

The pass percentage in the pre-medical group (regular) was 87.82 while in the pre-engineering group (regular), it was 85.11.

The overall first position was shared by Umair Saeed (pre- medical) and Umar Azad (pre-engineering), both students of F.G. Sir Syed College, The Mall, Rawalpindi Cantonment. They obtained 960 marks. The two students also secured the first position in their respective groups.

The second position was shared by two boys, Waqas Waheed (pre-engineering) of Fauji Foundation College for Boys, New Lalazar, Rawalpindi and Ali Arshad Nasir (pre-engineering) of F.G. Sir Syed College, The Mall, Rawalpindi Cantonment, who secured 957 marks. They also clinched the second position in the pre-engineering group.

The overall third position was shared by Mahpara Mazhar (pre-medical) of F.G. College for Women, Kashmir Road, Rawalpindi Cantonment, and Malik Mohammad Usman Gul (pre-engineering) of F.G. Sir Syed College, The Mall, Rawalpindi Cantonment. Both obtained 956 marks.

Mahpara Mazhar also obtained the first position in the pre- medical group among the girls. Whereas, Alia Rehman of PAEC Model College for Girls, Chasma district, Mianwali bagged the second position by obtaining 954 marks and Hafiza Umarah Masood of Army Public School and College, Bahawalpur Cantonment, came third with 952 marks.

Among the boys in the pre-medical group, Syed Salman Ali and Sultan Mahmood of F.G. Sir Syed College, The Mall, Rawalpindi Cantonment, were declared second and third with 937 and 936 marks, respectively.

In the girls section (pre-engineering), Lubna Jawaid of Pakistan International School, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia clinched the first position with 952 marks, while Fizzah Mubasher of Pakistan College, Muscat, Oman, and Hira Syed of F.G. College for Women, Kashmir Road, Rawalpindi Cantonment, were declared second and third with 946 and 943 marks, respectively.

In the general science group, Summiyya Shaheen of Pakistan International School, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia stood first with 942 marks, Samal Malik of Army Public School and College, 39 Zafar Ali Road, Sialkot was declared second with 907 marks and Uzma Hassan of Bahria College, Naval Complex, E-8, Islamabad obtained third position with 903 marks.

Among the boys, Ahmed Sultan of PAF Inter College, Malir Cantonment, Karachi, secured first position in the general science group with 883 marks. The second position was bagged by Immad Siddiqui of Shaheen Degree College PAF, Kamra, Attock and Mazhar Shahzad Zafar of Islamabad College for Boys, G-6/3, Islamabad who obtained 873 marks.

The third position was also shared by Mohammad Haseebur Rehman Khan of PAF Inter College, Mianwali and Mohammad Sohaib Irfan Raja of F.G. Sir Syed College with 866 marks.

In the commerce group, Zainab T.A Khan of Garrison Postgraduate College for Women, Lahore Cantonment, secured first position with 863 marks, while Moneeza Neha Siddiqui of Pakistan Islamia Inter College, Abu Dhabi, UAE, and Samra Naz of Pakistan Education Academy, Dubai, UAE, were declared second and third with 841 and 840 marks, respectively.

Among the boys in the commerce group, Saleem Mahmood of Rawalpindi College of Commerce, Lalarukh, The Mall, Wah Cantonment stood first with 801 marks, Mohammad Sameer Hassan of Saudi Arabian International School, Pak Section, Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia came second with 784 marks and Irfan Shams of Pakistan Education Academy, Dubai, UAE bagged the third position with 765 marks.

In the humanities group, Aisha Nawaz of Saudi Arabian International School Pak Section, Al-Khobar came first with 836 marks, while Ekta Sitani of F.G. Degree College, Quetta Cantonment, and Ayesha Arshad of F.G. College for Women, Kashmir Road, Rawalpindi Cantonment, were declared second and third with 798 and 795 marks, respectively.

In the boys section (humanities group) Mohammad Irfan, a private candidate, was declared first with 796 marks, Shakeel Ahmad, another private candidate, remained second with 756 marks and Mohammad Raheel of Shaheen Degree College, PAF, Kamra, Attock was adjudged to be third with 752 marks.

The result statistics suggested that out of a total of 34,010 candidates who appeared in the examinations, 18,913 were male and 15,456, female.

This year 12,312 students failed to pass the examinations out of which 7,290 students were male and 5,022 were female.

Out of the total passed candidates, 489 (265 female and 224 male) students secured A1 grades. As many as 3,792 candidates (2,035 female and 1,757 male) passed the exams in A-grade, 6,386 in B-grade and 7,705 in C grade.

According to the FBISE, 64 cases of unfair means were reported this year and a judicious procedure was observed to decide them. Before deciding the cases, maximum effort was made to provide a fair opportunity to the candidates involved in unfair means to defend themselves.

A statement issued in this regard said every possible measure was adopted to ensure that personal hearing was granted to each candidate.

The board said the candidates who had availed all chances would have to take the examination in all subjects under the syllabi prescribed for the year in which they appear. In order to qualify for the grant of HSSC exams, the candidates have to pass in all subjects.

The statement said grace marks had not been allowed to the candidates appearing for the first time in HSSC Part-II annual exams 2003. Those who appeared in the examination for the first time and failed in one or two subjects have been placed under compartment and will be required to clear these papers in one allowed chance of supplementary examination of the same year.

Those who have failed in more than two subjects have been shown as “Fail” in the gazette and, therefore, will have to appear in all the papers/subjects of Part I and II in any subsequent examination as a fresh candidate.

Meanwhile, the HSSC Part I and II Supplementary Examination, 2003 will commence from October 1.

The last date for submitting the fees for the supplementary examinations is August 20, while with late fee of Rs100, the last date is August 25. The FBISE has announced that it will not entertain any admission form after August 30, which is the last date of submitting form with double examination fees.
