KARACHI, July 26: The Sindh Government has called out the Army for rescue operation in the Badin district after torrential rain in coastal areas left 47 people dead and marooned over 25000 people, a provincial government spokesman said in a late Saturday night press release.
The spokesman described the situation as serious and said that helicopters and motorised boats had been rushed to the affected areas to move the people to safety.
At least 7000 people had been rescued and shifted to 19 relief camps where cooked food was being supplied and doctors had been despatched to the area to attend to patients, the spokesman said.
He said the provincial chief minister had released Rs32 million for the relief and rescue operation and the CM was personally supervising the operation.
