LARKANA, July 25: The district secondary education officer has stopped disbursing scholarships, extended under the MORA (ministry of religious affairs) scheme, as the district Zakat committee has failed to provide verified lists of deserving students.
When contacted, district education officer Habibullah Abbasi told this correspondent on Friday that the local zakat office was ignoring his repeated requests for providing verified lists of the eligible students.
The MORA scholarships can only be given after due verification of lists of recipients, provided by the school headmasters.
It was learnt that the district Zakat body had provided incomplete lists to the district Nazim.
It prompted the district Nazim to write a letter on July 10, to the chairman of the district Zakat committee in which he termed the provided information incomplete.
The district Zakat committee had not yet replied the letter, sources in the district government secretariat said.
