HYDERABAD, Dec 20: Communist Party of Pakistan’s woman wing leader Meeran Imdad Qazi has said the Shaista Almani case has exposed the ugly face of the feudal system in Sindh.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, she regretted that even the sister of Ms Almani had closed her doors for her due to the fear of what she called barbaric customs.

Ms Qazi said she saw a reflection of her own case in the mater of Ms Almani as 24 years back, she too had married of her own will but their relatives had put pressure on them to divorce. She, however, said they faced and resisted the traditions.

She urged political and progressive forces to accelerate their struggle to emancipate women.

She also appealed to human rights organizations to ensure protection to Ms Almani and extend help in her rehabilitation.
