LAHORE, Dec 18: The Lahore High Court on Thursday directed the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority to submit a report within a month, stating whether it was exercising sufficient control over private cable operators.
The court direction was issued during the proceedings of a writ petition, filed by Mohammad Azeem of Garhi Shahu, saying Pemra was failing to enforce its regulations on private cable operators who were showing obscene movies on foreign language TV channels.
Counsel Barrister Zafarullah Khan deposed before the court that transmission of all channels which were showing uncensored movies be stopped.
Pemra took a position during an early hearing that the petitioner had failed to move its complaint cell. Counsel stated that such a representation had already been made to the cell.
KITE-FLYING: The Lahore High Court on Thursday sought original record from various agencies about the loss of life and property due to kite-flying in Lahore.
The record has been summoned by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar from the city police, the Lahore Electric Supply Company and the Mayo Hospital. The three have already submitted copies of their record during the previous hearings of five writ petitions challenging the ban on the sport.
