Police quell protest in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, Dec 10: Police in occupied Kashmir on Wednesday used force to break up protests against excesses by government troops and detained dozens of freedom fighters during events to mark International Human Rights Day.

Mr Geelani and dozens of supporters were pulled into security force vehicles and driven to a police station.

Two senior JKLF leaders Javed Mir and Bashir Butt were among those detained. The pro-independence group’s chief Yasin Malik was also held separately. —AFP
