NEW DELHI, Dec 7: India is in touch with the Afghan government to help find three Indian road construction workers, kidnapped a day ago, Press Trust of India (PTI) said on Sunday.

PTI quoted foreign ministry spokesman Navetj Sarna as saying in Abuja, Nigeria, that Indian Foreign Minister Yashwant Sinha was closely monitoring the matter. Mr Sinha is in Nigeria to attend the Commonwealth summit.

“Mr Sinha is in close touch with Delhi for updates and is monitoring the situation,” the spokesman said.

“We are also in close touch with Afghanistan authorities,” Mr Sarna said.

The three Indian workers were kidnapped on the highway between Kabul and Kandahar but it was not clear if the workers were employees of the Indian government.
