MMA accused of playing double game

ISLAMABAD, Dec 4: People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) Senator Enver Baig has accused the Muttehida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) leadership of playing a double game, as it has already reached an understanding with the Musharraf regime.

Talking to Dawn here on Thursday, the PPP senator said the agitation plan announced by the MMA was a mere “drama” only to befool their voters and supporters.

Mr Baig claimed the MMA had announced this protest plan after getting it approved from the military regime as it wanted to have a face-saving for the deal already made with the government on the issues of the Legal Framework Order (LFO) and the president’s uniform.

He said the MMA wanted to gain political mileage out of the proposed constitutional package. He was of the view that when the government would present the package in parliament, the MMA would claim that it was due to the pressure of their protest plan. In this way, they will be able to score points in the eyes of their voters.
