ISLAMABAD, Dec 2: The tax authorities have claimed to have collected Rs169.196 billion during the July-November period of the current financial year against the target of Rs168.5 billion set for the same period, registering an increase of 0.41 per cent.

Official provisional figures released by Central Board of Revenue (CBR) here on Tuesday showed that the total revenue collection registered an increase of 7.9 per cent to Rs169.196 billion during the period under review against Rs156.736 billion collected during the same period last year.

On monthly basis, the tax authorities collected Rs33.146 billion during November 2003 against Rs31.780 billion collected during the same month last year, showing an increase of 4.3 per cent.

Further analysis of the statistics showed that the tax authorities collected Rs76.811 billion under the head of sales tax during the period against Rs74.924 billion the same period last year, an increase of 2.51 per cent.

The tax authorities collected Rs14.901 billion under the head of central excise duty (CED) during the period under review against Rs16.384 billion during the same period last year, showing a decrease of 9 per cent.

The revenue collection under the head of customs stood at Rs30.406 billion against Rs17.383 billion over the same period last year, an increase of 74.9 per cent.

The revenue collection under the head of direct taxes registered a growth of 7.7 per cent to Rs46.378 billion against Rs43.036 billion over the same period last year.
