KARACHI, Dec 1: A young man died when a security guard opened fire in PECHS on Monday.

Police said that Mohammad Sabir, 20, was busy in painting the house of Mr Bashir in Block-6 of PECHS, when the house owner had an exchange of words with Nabi Bux, a security guard posted at a nearby house.

In that situation, the security guard opened fire at Bashir, but, instead wounded Mohammad Sabir. He was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he died during treatment. Following the incident, the guard escaped from the spot, police added.

Unknown persons killed Mohammad Rafiq, 29, in Qaimkhani Colony early on Monday morning.

Police said that the body with two bullet wounds was found from the Mochko police limits. The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for autopsy examination. Doctors said that the body had two exit wounds; one in the eye and another in the chest.

Police said that Rafiq was taken to work on Sunday night by Amir alias Bhoora, who had also been missing.

In Malir, a young man was killed and two others were wounded when an armed man opened fire at them in Malir late Sunday night.

Police said that the deceased identified as Wazir Ahmed and the injured Ijaz and Yousaf were present near the bus stop of Murad Memon goth when a suspect identified as Shabir sprayed them with bullets. Wazir died instantly while the two wounded men were taken to the JPMC for treatment.

Police said that Shabir had developed some differences with the three men and opened fire at them after the failure of negotiations between them. The suspect is absconding and police are making raids for his arrest.

FIRE: Around 13,000 chicks of four poultry farms died in a fire in Landhi early Sunday morning.

A spokesman for the fire department told Dawn that the fire broke out in one of the poultry farms when a gas cylinder exploded. The fire spread quickly in the neighbouring farms consuming the small chicks.

Two fire-tenders continued their efforts to extinguish the fire for several hours, the spokesman added.

In New Karachi, a fire erupted in a gas pipeline on early Monday morning. A spokesman for the fire department said that the fire erupted in Sector 7-C of New Karachi. The concerned staff of the Sui gas disconnected the supply to control the fire.

DIES: An injured girl of the Suzuki Hi-roof fire incident died at the National Institute of Child Health on Monday.

Two children had died of burns when a vehicle carrying nine persons caught fire in Shershah on Nov 28.

Senior official of the Edhi Foundation told Dawn that young girl, Sumaira, 5, was first taken to the Civil Hospital and later shifted to the NICH’s burns ward.

Confirming the incident, Shershah police said that the vehicle Suzuki Hi-roof (CJ-0137) was going to Bihar Colony from Rasheedabad when the vehicle caught fire probably due to short circuiting of wires.

The two children, sitting on the back seat, were seriously burnt and had died on the spot.

ARRESTED: The Docks police on late Sunday night arrested 12 fishermen, who were stealing valuables from the Tasman Spirit.

SHO Docks police station Maqsood Ahmed told Dawn that he had received information about the stealing of valuables from the wreckage of the ill-fated ship. The police rushed to the spot and arrested 12 fishermen. An emergency boat, three air conditions and other valuables, which they had taken off from the ship, were recovered from their possession.

The suspects were identified as Mosal, Habibullah, Dawood, Chandbar, Siddiq, Akram, Husain, Ghafoor, Usman, Mustafa, Rasheed and Ismail. All the suspects were working for Shafi Jat. An FIR (7/2003) under Section 380/34 had been lodged against them, the SHO added.
