KARACHI, Dec 30: Although the Press played an important role in reviving horseracing in the city after being in the doldrums for over six months in the current year, the race course officials decided to treat the mediamen who converge on the Karachi Race Course (KRC) to cover the events in a most ungentlemently fashion.
Towards the end of the race Sunday, stacks of complimentary passes were seen going up to the Stewards Room and the Race Course Office.
When one journalist approached the Stewards for the passes which have been issued every year to the mediamen, he was flatly refused by KRC Secretary S.A.H. Shah, who told the journalist that there were no complimentary passes available for them.
Hashim Abbas, a respected Steward tried to intervene and went up to the office of the KRC Secretary to obtain some passes but although being a subordinate, Shah overruled Hashim’s decision.
It is high time that this gentlemen who struts about the racecourse like he owns the premises is brought down to earth and reminded that he is just a paid KRC employee.
