KARACHI, Nov 24: A teenaged boy facing charges in the murder case of a schoolteacher, was granted bail on Monday by an additional district and sessions court.
Sufiyan Ali, 15, and his friend Qaiser Butt, 13, were charged with the murder of Saima Irfan, a secondary school teacher at the St. Patrick’s Boys High School. Saima Irfan was also a private tutor of Qaiser.
The additional district and sessions judge, East, Mohammed Nauman Memon, granted bail to Sufiyan in the sum of Rs200,000. Accused Qaiser Butt was already on bail, granted by the Sindh High Court.
Saima Irfan, 26, mother of an infant, was found slaughtered on Jan 23 at her apartment on the 12th floor of the Taj Complex on M. A. Jinnah Road.
The Brigade police arrested the suspects after the husband of the deceased, Irfan Ali, quoted his wife as telling him that Qaisar, a student of class-VII, had threatened her of dire consequences.
According to police, the boy had spent the tuition fee for his teacher on his friends and he became enraged with her when she scolded him.
The police also seized two kitchen knives, used in the offence, from the flat.
The accused are being prosecuted under the Juvenile Justice System Ordinance, 2000.
SENTENCED: The federal anti-corruption court, headed by Judge Muneer Ahmed Khawaja, sentenced a man to a two-year term for attempting to travel abroad on forged documents.
Shahid Naeem and his brother, Kashif Naeem, were arrested on Feb 9 this year by the FIA’s immigration staff at the Quaid-i-Azam International Airport where they had reached to board a London-bound flight.
Accused Shahid Naeem was found possessing the passport of his brother, Shahid Naeem, who was already in London.
The judge, however, acquitted accused Kashif Naeem, while giving him benefit of doubt.
ACQUITTED: The district and sessions judge, South, Nuzhat Ara Alvi, acquitted two workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in a robbery case.
Ameen Pasha and Waseem Ahmed, booked by the Darakhshan police in 1998, were acquitted for want of incriminating evidence against them.
Meanwhile, the additional district and sessions judge, East, Kausar Sultan, acquitted a man, prosecuted for possessing fake local currency.
Accused Amjad Ali was booked and arrested on Sept 3, 1998, by the Tipu Sultan police after fake notes of Rs10 denomination were recovered from him.
The judge acquitted him as the prosecution could not prove its case.
