KABUL, Nov 20: The World Bank warned on Thursday that deteriorating security was undermining reconstruction in Afghanistan, as the 12th aid worker to be killed in the war-ravaged country this year was buried in Kabul.

“The World Bank believes continued deterioration of security will lead to the disruption or even stall ongoing reconstruction and development works in Afghanistan,” the bank said in a statement.

Bettina Goislard, 29, was shot dead on Sunday at close range as she sat in a clearly-marked United Nations car in a bazaar in the centre of the southeast town of Ghazni, 130 kilometres from Kabul.

She was the first international United Nations worker to be killed in Afghanistan amid a surge in violence against aid workers blamed on Taliban, who were driven from power by US-led forces two years ago.—AFP
