More shopkeepers arrested

LAHORE, Nov 10: The City District Government squads arrested 30 more shopkeepers and lodged FIRs against another 45 for selling essential items at exorbitant rates during the Ramazan price control campaign here on Monday.

On-the-spot fines of Rs34,000 were also imposed on shopkeepers for overcharging during raids on 125 shops in Sanda, Moghalpura, Sherakot, Nasirabad, Rajgarh, Islampura, R.A. Bazaar and Nawankot areas.

Assistant District Officer (Revenue) Shuja Qutab Bhatti imposed on-the-spot fines of Rs12,200 on 14 shopkeepers for under-weighing the goods at Karim Block, Nargis Block and Bismillah Chowk, Allama Iqbal Town.

Another 26 shopkeepers were challaned for using substandard weights by the Labour Officers.

MEAT: The Data Ganj Bakhsh Town Meat Inspection Incharge challaned six butchers for overcharging and selling unstamped meat in Anarkali, Bibi Pakdaman and Beadon Road.

The unstamped meat fit for consumption was confiscated and auctioned for Rs7,000.

BUTTER: A CDG squad, led by Deputy District Officer (Food) Chaudhry Munir Ahmed, booked the owners of Haji Dairy Farm and Sahiwal Dairy Farm, Dharampura, for preparing spurious butter and ‘desi ghee’ from vanaspati.

The food squad seized 95kg spurious butter and 25kg ‘desi ghee’ and destroyed 250kg vanaspati being processed for the preparation of butter and ghee.
