ISLAMABAD, Nov 2: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has constituted a special national committee to review the existing examination systems in the public sector universities, an official statement said.
The committee will also collect data on various examination systems being practised in the universities.
Prof (Dr) M. Hussain Mubashar, vice chancellor, University of Health Sciences Lahore, will be the chairman of the committee, while senior and eminent educationists have been nominated as its members.
The terms of reference for the national committee include suggesting standardized mechanism of the evaluation system and scoring according to “International Referring” which lead to quality assurance and ensured accreditation of local qualifications internationally.
The committee will also develop a high fidelity examination system, develop a table of specifications for examinations to ensure content coverage and to relate examinations to performance of future roles so that universities can enhance the quality of higher education in the country.
It will define roles and job description of various officers in the examination departments of the universities and ensure proper training of them.
The national committee will also suggest means for designing and providing assistance in setting up training programmes and workshops on examination methodology.
In addition to this, the committee will suggest methods of internal evaluation to ensure its use for formative assessment and feedback to students and teachers.
The committee will also develop methodology for statistical analysis of examination results to ensure standardization and to use exam results and scores for feedback to teachers and evaluation of the training programmes.
Another responsibility of the committee will be to help universities develop a manual of their examinations, specifying objectives, methodology, resources. It will also play its role in setting up of examination departments with strict rules and provisions for secrecy, paper setting, storage, printing and marking by examiners.
