KARACHI, Oct 29: Sindh Chief Minister Ali Mohammed Mahar on Wednesday paid a surprise visit to the complaint cell established at the CM House to respond to public complaints regarding price-hike etc.
The CM inquired about the details of the working of the cell and listened to some of the incoming calls and inquired from the people about their complaints.
A caller Naveed Siddiqi informed the CM about the sale of beef, fruits and vegetables at exorbitant rates in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.
The chief minister said that the government was taking measures to check prices, and the officials concerned have been given powers of summary court and they would take an action against those indulging in adulteration, hoarding and profiteering.
Another caller from Malir, Abdul Rehman Rizvi, was delighted to know about the presence of the chief minister listening to public complaints. He complained about the supply of contaminated water.
The chief minister directed the staff to resolve the public grievances on a priority basis.
He asked the representatives of the city government, the police, the KESC, the KWSB and the SSGC not only to register complaints but also make efforts for their solution.
He was informed by the personnel at the cell that complaints received on wireless or through mobile phone are communicated to the departments concerned in five minutes and later a verification is also obtained about their resolution.
The chief minister said the government was taking action against profiteers and hoarders and in this holy month, one should avoid putting fasting people into inconvenience and should reduce the prices of essential commodities instead of raising them to exorbitant levels.
He was informed that so far 126 complaints have been received.
Sindh Minister for Religious Affairs, Irfan Gul Magsi, revenue minister Altaf Unnar, chief secretary and other officials were also present.
Meanwhile, the chief minister has directed the police and other law-enforcement agencies and administration to take all possible steps to control law and order situation.
Presiding over a meeting at the CM House, the chief minister ordered steps to eliminate the highway robberies and to keep a vigil on suspicious elements at commercial centres, markets and around government departments’ buildings.
Senior minister Syed Sardar Ahmed, advisor on home affairs Aftab Ahmed Shaikh, Sindh minister Haji Mohammad Usman Malkani, Sindh minister Irfan Gul Magsi, deputy speaker Raheela Tiwana, MPA Ms Afshan, Sindh chief secretary Mutawakkil Kazi and IGP Syed Kamal Shah, among others, were present in the meeting.—PPI
