KARACHI, Oct 23: The City Council session on Thursday rejected the notification of the district government regarding formation of a committee to supervise the development work in different union councils.

As per the notification, a committee was formed comprising five UC Nazims and four officials of the city government for supervision of uplift projects.

Siddique Rathore, leader of Al-Khadim Group, objected the notification saying that there was no provision in the Sindh Local Government Ordinance for constituting such a committee, as under Section 130 any officer could be assigned the job of supervising the development work. He said that the committee, in which according to Mr Rathore all five UC Nazims belong to Khidmat Group, would only create obstacle in the development work.

Mr Rathore said that only a government functionary could issue such notifications. He called for voting on the notification before the House could take up the agenda. He presented a resolution in which the committee was termed illegal and aimed at creating obstacles in development work of the UCs and resulting in dividing the House.

After the speeches of Mr Rathore, Saeed Ghani, Jafar-ul- Hasan, Wasi Haider and Mr Aziz, the resolution was put to voting and the resolution was carried by 49 votes against 42.
