KARACHI, Oct 13: Chairman Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) Iqbal Umer has opposed a suggestion given by spinners to impose ban on raw cotton exports.

In a statement issued on Monday, he said when the government fixed target for cotton production was achievable, there was no reason to impose ban on exports.

He said it took time for exporters to build country’s image in world cotton market and any such action was likely to shatter buyers’ confidence.

Iqbal Umer emphasized that the government should continue with its free trade policy in order to support growers. He was of the opinion that efforts should be made to increase cotton production which was the only way to boost country’s economy.
