HYDERABAD, Oct 12: The Sindh National Council has demanded that Wapda should be divided in four units to end the hegemony of a particular province on it.
The demand was made at a meeting of the central committee of the party held here on Saturday.
The meeting recalled that during the question hour in the National Assembly, it had been disclosed that the two-year contract of the Wapda chairman was about to expire. The meeting opposed the extension of the contract.
It appealed to the people of Sindh to jointly struggle against the greater Thal canal and Kalabagh dam and launch a social boycott of ministers, advisers and MPs who were supporting the projects opposed by all and sundry in the province.
The meeting decided to convene a water conference on Nov 9 to give a befitting reply to the propaganda of the government in favour of the two projects.
Punhal Sario presided over the meeting which was attended by Hussain Bux Thebo, Dr Rahim Solangi, Dr Dodo Maheri, Chacha Mohammad Ali Leghari and others.
SPLA: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) has demanded that the principal of the government girls college Tando Adam should be removed without delay.
The demand was made at a joint meeting of the central, regional and Sanghar district office-bearers of the association held here on Saturday.
The central secretary general of the association, Prof Mohammad Siddique Unnar presided over the meeting. It expressed no confidence in Mirza Eijaz Baig who was appointed as inquiry officer by the education department to probe into the allegations levelled against the government girls college Tando Adam principal by the SPLA.
PESTICIDES RECOMMENDED: The director general, Sindh agriculture extension and research, has advised paddy growers of upper Sindh to spray their crops attacked by pests with recommended pesticides in consultation with experts of the department.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, the director general, Malik Mohammad Akram, said the pest attack had affected the crops planted late in various districts.
He also directed district agriculture officers of Larkana, Jacobabad, Shikarpur and Dadu to be vigilant in respect of the late planted crops and guide the growers to protect their crops.
The Rice Research Institute of Dokri has recommended Confidor (200 S.L), Actara (25 W.G), Imican (25 W.P), Deltaphos (350+10 E.C), Thiodan (35 E.C), Decis (2.5 E.C) and Jozer (210 S.L) for application against pest — white-back plant hopper — that has attacked the rice crop. For rice leaf folder pest, Karate (2.5 E.C), Thiodan (35 E.C), Curacron (500 E.C), Polytrin-C (440 E.C), Deltanet (400 E.C), Azodrin (40 WSC), and Lorsban (40 E.C) have been recommended.
