Two poles providing electricity supply to the hospital fell near the nursing hostel as some youths were trying to tie a banner between the poles. Wires fell on the road, resulting in problems to passersby and motorcycle riders. The power supply remained suspended from 12 noon to 7:30pm.
According to the medical superintendent, Dr Shafqat Memon, the power disruption badly affected the work at the hospital and around 70 operations were delayed.
The generator also did not work which aggravated the situation for the hospital administration.
The MS said he informed the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company and officials of the company arrived at the hospital but they left without restoring the power supply, saying the hospital administration did not cooperate with them. He said he then informed the executive engineer, superintending engineer and the chief executive of Hesco about the problem after which the power supply was restored.
The situation at the hospital’s pathology laboratory was also quite disturbing and the staff had to stop receipt of samples for different tests as the equipment could not work.
