ISLAMABAD, Oct 7: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has issued directives to give cash compensation to those whose property was damaged by the activists of Millat-i- Islamia Pakistan (MIP) during Tuesday riots in Islamabad, the interior minister Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat told Dawn.
The minister said he had talked to the prime minister, who is currently on an official visit to the US, by telephone apprising him about the law and order situation in the Capital.
“The prime minister told me that due compensation would be given to the affected people after an exact assessment of the losses,” the minister said.
Mr Hayat said he had announced a compensation of Rs0.3 million for deceased Muhammad Naveed, an employee of Melody Cinema, who died when the cinema was set on fire by the mob.
He said the government had also announced cash compensation of Rs50,000 for those received severe injuries during violent demonstration of the MIP activists.
The compensation, he said, would be given against damaged shops, vehicles and buildings. However, complaints with exaggerated losses could not be entertained.
