PESHAWAR, Oct 4: Chairman of Abaseen Foundation has demanded of the provincial government to appoint more staff at the basic health unit, Nahaqi, so that people of the area could be provided with better health facilities.

The Foundation, which started managing the BHU of Nahaqi village on the outskirt of Peshawar since two years under the public-private partnership with the assistance of provincial government, needed more staff to start evening and night shifts for meeting the needs  of critically ill patients, chairman  of the Foundation Brig Gul Man Sher Afridi said.

Speaking at a prize distribution ceremony held here on Saturday, he said they needed additional staff to make the operation theatres and emergency ward functional because the patients were being transported to the city hospitals in emergency.

Nazim of the local union council Col Ghulam Rabbani, appreciated the efforts being made by the staff of the BHU and lauded the efforts of the staff. He assured the administration of full cooperation and said that the facility would be made a model for other health care outlets.

Honorary medical director of the Foundation, Dr Mukhtiar Zaman Afridi highlighted the achievements and problems of the BHU. He said that the model of the unit could become and example for other parts of the province.

Director administration of the health department Dr Sajid Shaheen, assured that the government would provide support required to the BHU in meeting patients’ needs. He said the government was encouraging public-private partnership to strengthen the health delivery network in the province.

Later, he gave away shields, certificates and cash prizes to Dr Tasneemullah Khan, in charge nurse Suhaila and Mohammad Younas for their performance.
