KARACHI, Oct 2: The Sindh High Court directed on Thursday two jail officials to appear before the court on Oct 9, and explain why a teenager has not been shifted to a juvenile jail despite court orders.

The 17-year-old detainee, Waqar Shamsi, was alleged to have played a key role in the kidnapping for ransom and killing of Hafiz Mohammad Omar, a 16-year-old student.

Mohammad Omar was abducted on Sept 16. Waqar Shamsi and three co-accused demanded Rs3 million in ransom from his father and killed him when their demand was not fulfilled.

Waqar Shamsi was remanded by an SHC administrative judge for the anti-terrorism court on Sept 25, and was ordered to be detained at the juvenile jail.

His counsel, Wazir Hussain Khoso and Saadatyar Khan, moved a contempt petition on Thursday stating that the accused had been lodged in the Central Prison instead of the juvenile jail.

Justice Ahmed directed the jail officials to appear before the court on Oct 9 and explain the position.
