HYDERABAD, Oct 1: The adviser to Sindh chief minister on local bodies and Kutchi Abadis has invited the district council members to submit proposals for amendments to the Sindh Local Government Ordinance.
Speaking at the district council here on Wednesday, adviser Waseem Akhtar urged the elected representatives and the officials of the district to jointly work for strengthening the district government system.
He said that the smooth sailing of the system would take time and added that the officials were bound to implement the resolutions adopted in the district council.
Mr Akhtar asked the members to approach the Sindh government if their resolutions are not implemented by the officers.
He asked the DCO to ensure that the executive district officers and district officers attended sessions of the district council.
He urged the elected representatives to conduct their own accountability regarding utilization of funds given to them.
The adviser said that they should not keep criticizing Punjab for development being witnessed there because rulers of Punjab were committed to their people. He added: “The question is what have we done for our people, whether we have properly utilized development funds or gobbled them up?”
CONVENER: Convener Nawab Rashid Ali Khan, in his address of welcome, spoke about the wilful and repeated violations of the SLGO by the EDOs and other district government officers.
He said that none of the officials had presented his three months report which was necessary according to the law.
Likewise, he said, questions of the members remained unanswered for months by the officials as they were least bothered about it.
He said that in the last two years millions of rupees were spent but the condition of the city was for everyone to see in the wake of the monsoon rains.
Mr Khan said that officials had decided to destroy the district government system in order to perpetuate their rule.
