KARACHI, Sept 29: Armed men killed a policeman in Garden West in a robbery bid on Monday.
ASP Garden Fayyaz Saiyal, told Dawn that three armed men came to a shop in Garden West. As they entered into the shop, two policemen patrolling on motorcycle spotted them. Head constable Tahir Yousaf went into the shop while the other policeman took position outside the shop.
ASP Garden said that Tahir had grabbed one of the suspected men, but he was shot in the chest from point blank range by the other bandit. The head constable died before he could be shifted to the hospital.
Police constable Mohammad Siddiqi, who had taken position outside the shop, opened fire injuring one of the fleeing robbers.
However, the suspected men managed to escape in an awaiting Grey Suzuki Cultus (AEG-854), in which two of their accomplices were already present.
The ASP said that the suspected car moved on to Shahra-i- Quaideen, where they were chased by an official of the ACLC.
The suspected men dropped their injured accomplice on road behind the Central Jail and escaped.
The injured suspect, who could not be identified, was taken to the Civil Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.
The ASP said that the Suzuki Cultus (AEG-854), used in the robbery, had been snatched at gunpoint from North Karachi on the same day.
