KARACHI, Sept 27: The Jeay Sindh Mahaz (JSM) has decided to launch a protest campaign against the construction of Kalabagh dam and Thal canal projects.

The JSM declared both these water projects against the interest of Sindh province and urged the government to withdraw the same immediately. The party members presented these views at a gathering of intellectuals, writers, experts, political activists, doctors, advocates and journalists.

The meeting, presided over by the JSM Chairman Abdul Khalique Junejo, decided to form the “Save Sindh Committee” that would organize a resistance movement against these “anti-Sindh” water projects.

Nuruddin Sarki advocate was unanimously elected as president of the committee. Other members of the committee included senior advocate Abdul Haleem Pirzada, M.B. Naqvi, Abdul Khalique Junejo, Dr Aly Eresylan, Fahmida Riaz, Dr Shams Soomro, Qamar Shahbaz, Ali Yawar, Ammara Durrani, Muslim Shamim, Dr Habib Soomro, Ghulam Nabi Mughal, Baseer Naveed, Taj Baloch, Bari Mangi, Dr Habib Soomro, Qamar Shahbaz and Jan-e-Alam.

As a first step of its struggle, the committee will hold a protest demonstration against Kalabagh dam and Thal canal projects in front of Karachi Press Club on Oct 3.

Mr Sarki said that the rulers seemed to be bent upon constructing the Thal canal project. He urged the intellectuals to save the province from further destruction.

The meeting appealed to the people of Sindh to observe complete social boycott of anyone and everyone, who support the anti-Sindh water projects.
