KARACHI, Sept 24: The city government has appealed to Edhi Foundation not to accept the consignment of 57,000 sheep from Australia.
In a letter to Abdul Sattar Edhi, Nazim Naimatullah Khan said it had come to his knowledge through media reports that the Foundation had offered the Australian government to accept the livestock consignment of 57,000 sheep earlier meant for Saudi Arabia.
That country rejected the consignment on the ground that more than six per cent of the sheep had foot-and-mouth disease. The same consignment was then offered free-of-charge to UAE which, too, turned it down for similar reasons.
The Nazim said the city government was not a party to any such deal and could not allow such a consignment to enter the city unless a team of doctors had examined it and issued a health clearance certificate.— APP
