KARACHI, Sept 21: The dream of peace across the globe can materialize only if all the segments of the society, including intellectuals, teachers, parents and students, start striving for the realization of this cherished objective.

This was the view expressed by the speakers at an event organized jointly by the United Nations Chapter of Pakistan and the Karachi Press Club (KPC) to mark the World Peace Day here on Sunday.

Ghulam Rasool Baloch, chief protocol officer, ministry of foreign affairs, said the meaning of peace had to be understood in a broader perspective.

“God created the world not for its destruction but for peace. Life is an invaluable gift of God and nobody has the right to take it away from anyone,” he said. Dr Ali Akhtar of the Rotary Club said no religion preached hatred.

Iqbal Chishti of the UN, Zakaria Kazmi of the Pakistan Chamber of Engineers, Chaudhary Ilahi Buskh, and general secretary the Karachi Press Club, Khurshid Abbasi also spoke on the occasion.
