PESHAWAR, Sept 20: NWFP Pakistan Medical Association has demanded of the government to issue a notification of the institution-based practice (IBP) and restore the services of the doctors who had tendered resignations in protest against the new system.

PMA Provincial chief Dr Haroon Khan said that the NWFP Assembly had passed a unanimous resolution against the IBP some three months ago but the notification was yet to be issued.

He also criticized the MMA-led government for its meeting with the doctors, who belonged to the Jamaat-i-Islami and asked it to discuss matters pertaining to health with elected leaders of the doctors in order to bring improvement in the health care system in the province.

Dr Khan also demanded regularization of the services of contract doctors who, according to him, had been working against meagre salaries for the last eight years.

Director of Archaeology and Museums, NWFP, Dr Ihsan Ali and other officials received the high commissioner and briefed the guests about the Gandhara art pieces put on display at the museum, says a press release.

The high commissioner appreciated the preservation of Gandhara art in the NWFP and invited staff of the museum to visit Sri Lanka to strengthen cultural relationship between the two countries, the press release added.
