KARACHI, Sept 20: The Edhi Foundation has announced that it would accept donation of 57,000 sheep, offered by certain philanthropists, on after certification by veterinarians and experts as well as a no objection certificate from the health department.

Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Dubai have already declined to accept the consignment, casting doubts about the sheep being healthy, following which it has been offered to Edhi Foundation. The donors maintain that a team of Australian and German experts have already inspected the consignment and declared it ‘healthy’.

A spokesman for Edhi Foundation said that the acceptance of the sheep consignment was subjected to verification by Pakistani experts.

Founder of the Foundation Abdul Sattar Edhi has said he has directed doctors at the Edhi Animal Hospital to examine the consignment with the help of veterinary specialists to make sure that the sheep were healthy and their meat was fit for human consumption. He intended to keep the sheep at Edhi Village for distribution among poor and needy people within a month.

Mr Edhi said that the Foundation used to distribute thousands of kilograms of meat among various government hospitals throughout the country.—APP/PPI
