KARACHI, Sept 15: As many as 4,191 male students have been placed for admission to Pre-Medical first year classes (session 2003-2004) at government run city colleges and higher secondary schools.
Against a total allocation of 4,240 seats for admission at 49 educational institutions, the number of students, originally, having applied for admission to the medical faculty remained about 3,100.
As such there was room for giving admission to applicants having secured D grade in the SSC examinations and were denied admission to Pre-Engineering faculty due to non-availability of seats, said a senior member of the admission committee on Monday.
Over 1,000 left over applicants of pre-medical group, having passed SSC with Biology subject, have been included in the placement lists of Pre-Medical group, said the committee member.
The member further said that the remaining applications pertaining to Pre-Engineering group would be considered for placement to Commerce and Humanities groups admission. The applicants with D grade would be given admission to Commerce faculty, while E graders would be placed for admission to Humanities group, he added.
The Centralized Admission Policy Committee did not place about 2,116 (13 per cent) male students desiring admission to first year pre-engineering due to non-availability of seats. The pre-engineering lists were released on Sept 8.
In the meantime a circular of the Admission Committee, appointed under the CAP of the city government, said that none of the students would be deprived of admission to colleges or higher secondary schools.
Last year a total of 3,222 male students were admitted to medical faculty and as such there is an increase of 969 students in the medical classes. Those placed for admissions have been asked to finalize their admissions within seven days.
According to CAP committee data, in comparison to last year’s Pre-medical admissions, increase in cut-off marks for admissions was recorded at a number of colleges, including Adamjee Science College, D J Science College, Delhi College, Gulshan-e-Iqbal College, National College, Malir Cantt College, Nazimabad College for Men, Islamia Science College, PECHS Foundation College and Aisha Bawany College.
As much as 294 A-1 graders, 526 A graders, 773 B graders, 1,049 C graders and 1,549 D graders have been placed for admission this year.
A maximum of 200 students were placed for admission, each at Landhi-4 Government Boys College and Government Jamia Millia Degree College (Morning), followed by Government degree Science College, Liaquatabad (152) and Government Sirajuddaula College (150). Konkar Boys College and Konkar HSS got 3 students each for admission.
Three centres, for receiving objections from the students regarding their placement, have been set up at the Government College for men, Government Islamia Science College, Government Superior Science College, Shah Faisal colony, respectively.
